Pointless packaging

Why is everything packaged in plastic ... especially our fruits and vegetables?
It's a pointless packaging! It's suppose to increase the shelf life but the plastic wraps either end up in the landfills or find its way to the ocean and slowly killing marine life.
There must be a better option whether it be reusable or biodegradable packaging. But until corporations and retails go that route, we as consumers must do our part by making decisions not to buy produce that are plastic wrap. Buying loose produce when possible, shopping at farmer's markets and with a little more food planning and less food waste... you will do your part by helping the environment.
